Initially the group functioned as a co-operative with over fifteen voting members but this proved too unweildly and over the next two years the system was refined. Currently there is a core of six to ten board members responsible for the day to day operations of the gallery, with twenty five to thirty represented artists displaying their work.
All the board members are practicing artists and their work is central to the gallery. The goal of the gallery is to give the public a broad representation of the dynamic art community in the mid-coast area and to assist artists in expanding their public exposure.
Each month during the summer season a different group of artists is featured and an opening reception is held so the public can meet the artists and the artists can interact with their public.
This give and take between the artists and the community is an important part in the process that takes the artist from the solitude of the studio to the wider venue of public opinion.
We have also experimented over the last two years with informal artist talks to which the public is invited. These consist of a member or two giving a short talk on a subject of their choice which incorporates their perspective on the creative process and gives valuable insight into their work. This is something on which we plan to expand in the coming years.
